Jerry Oliver had already spent time playing professionally when he realized he had a knack for communicating musical ideas to others and enjoyed showing people how quickly they could play something that sounded cool even when they had no prior musical training or experience. Jerry realized teaching could work for him as a way to make a living while pursuing his musical dreams.

Soon thereafter Jerry enrolled at Music Tech Of Minneapolis (now The McNally/Smith School Of Music). Jerry took classes in music theory, fretboard theory, classical guitar, performance, composition and more so he would be prepared to offer a wide range of knowledge to all kinds of students.

Jerry began teaching guitar lessons in Minneapolis part time in 1993 while he was still in music school. By 1996 his teaching schedule was so full he made the decision to dedicate himself to teaching and performing music full time.

Jerry moved to Nashville in 2003 to teach guitar lessons for Joe Chamber’s Guitars in Cool Springs and to pursue his songwriting and music career. Chambers closed their doors in 2006 but Jerry continued to teach for them at the Musician’s Hall of Fame which Joe opened in downtown Nashville in 2007. Since the MHOF was bought-out by the new Nashville Convention Center, he has continued to teach private lessons independently as a “mobile” guitar teacher.

Jerry has taught hundreds of students of all ages and levels in Minneapolis and the Nashville area. Past students have went on to become students of guitar and music at other schools like The Berkeley School Of Music and GIT, play professionally in bands, work in TV, record their music, play talent shows, write their own songs, and many have learned to play and enjoy the guitar for their own private enjoyment!
