Late Night Simmer With Dr. John

Images-1

Locked Down with Dr. John. Great new album. He came to Nashville. Laid down some hard funk tranks and put the New Orleans voodoo whammy on them while Dan Auerbach conducted the proceedings and kept the engine stoked. And it worked for some fierce, meaningful tracks. When you've lost your whole city you're ready for revolution and a party. It all makes perfect sense. Sing it good doctor. Swing it boys.
No one can tell me what New Orleans sounds like any more than I can tell you what Nashville or Minneapolis ...or Chicago.. or Austin... or LA sound like. You just know it when you feel it in your Bo Diddley bones and your mojo gets a workin'!
So this Auerbach Black Keys influenced record is a win win for all parties involved. Listeners included. The sounds look back and forward at the same time. I mean we're all going to a place everyone goes sooner or later. Groove. The guitars sound so cool and the keyboards are top shelf. The sound of the whole studio is awesome. You can hear the room on the tracks. And Dr. John is angry but groovin' not just spoutin' and Dan has got his back.
The tracks are are just right on a hot wet summer night. It seems like anything Auerbach touches has the magic these days, and his cool guitar licks don't hinder this album at all, but Dr. John is on his game in every way on this record.
